The Benefits of Going “Green” with Plant Décor

Have your ever considered greening your home? If not, you should now.

Plants are a simple way to add instant color and glamour to home interiors. But also, wellness can be fostered through the ‘living’ decor plants provide – they absorb harmful chemicals and regulate humidity.

This is more than just aesthetics. Plants are believed to be good for one’s health and help clean the indoor air. At Sensory Six, our designs focus on enabling people to enjoy lives filled with energy. Using indoor plants in interior design will not only be visually appealing, but they can improve air quality by creating oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide, regulating humidity, and absorbing harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde and volatile organic compounds.

Most people spend their time indoors so it’s vital for living and working spaces to promote both health and wellness. Incorporating plant décor in the workplace can make employees more creative and productive, can reduce stress, and gives an overall higher level of well-being.

Though, it’s important to not think of going “green” as just adding a plant in a room, but more as a form of art to be placed as vignettes on shelves, in corners, and spaces where there are natural gaps. Moreover, hanging plants from the ceiling is a great way to display them, which creates a focus at different heights to make the room more interesting. We like to be creative with how we add plant décor to our interior layouts. Do you like to create symmetry or do you like to create interest? For instance, take an even or odd number of plants and layer them in tall, medium and small sizes, varying from a single, sculptural statement plant to a cluster arrangement.

Green, or living, walls are crossing over from corporate environments to residential spaces, and work well in smaller spaces where there isn’t room for pots. Installing living walls like vertical gardens, green walls, plant walls, or live walls in our homes, offices, schools and restaurants has become a hit all over the world. These green installations are stunning and have massive health and wellness benefits like improving one’s physical health, improving happiness, and making us smarter. Also, a major benefit of green walls is they act as natural insulation, keeping air inside the buildings – cooler in the summer months and warmer during the winter months – making consumers that little bit more comfortable.

At Sensory Six, we take a holistic view, creating spaces that bring all your senses into harmony. We accomplish this through organic furnishings and materials; use of natural light and bringing nature into the home or business. Sensory Six’s name comes from the strong belief that living spaces should be in harmony with all our senses and create a total sensory experience.
