2017 Design Trends

What's so great about design? It's always fresh, new and exciting. In an industry that is constantly changing, there are always new ways to make to your interiors feel more updated. We've rounded up 10 of our favorite trends for the year that are easy ways to improve your home and life that will have your space feel new and exciting.

1. Built-in Bars

Why go out to a bar when you can have the most stylish bar right in your own home? 2016 was the year of the bar cart and we saw people that love to entertain embrace the bar cart trend. But, there are ways to take your at home entertaining to the next level. In your kitchen, adding a bar will add pizzazz to your otherwise traditional style kitchen. It's a sleek place to sit and have drinks and dinner while also making the kitchen the center of activity.

2. Contrasting Islands

Ready for a kitchen update? Finally add an island that offers extra room to cook and entertain. How to take it to the next left? Paint it a contrasting color from the rest of their kitchen to create a modern look. Your island will be the talk of your next house party!

3. Hexagonal Tile Backsplash

We've seen people move away from having square, straight edge tile backsplashes to wanting to have geometric, contemporary shapes as backsplash tiles, specifically hexagons! It is no longer "hip to be square"! When choosing a hexagonal backsplash, you can go with a monochromatic look with the same color to keep it more neutral or can choose a few complementary colors for a graphic focal point in your kitchen.

4. White & Wood Kitchens

Not a fan of the hexagonal tile backsplash and prefer more of a traditional look for your kitchen? The great part about design is that there are so many different trends. Another we have seen emerge has been white and wood kitchens. It's a simple style that focus on white accessories and wood features within the space. You can choose the shade of white and what type of wood you want and it's overall a combination that is classic yet modern with a simple color palette.

5. Marble

If tile isn't your cup of tea, then you can opt for another trend that is not going anywhere! We have seen marble be used for everything from countertops, flooring, tables tops to home accessories and is seen throughout the home in every space. Marble can be used in everything from traditional to contemporary spaces depending on the colors and pattern of the marble slab you choose. We love using white and light gray marble to create bright, sleek, and modern environments.

6. Black Steel & Glass

Shower in style! Black steel and glass doors have been popular in taking an underrated room to a space that everyone is talking about and wanting in their own homes. It's a Zen space that allows maximum natural light to shine in.

7. Pendant Lights

Pendant lighting is popping up everywhere (or down from the ceiling!)! Instead of table lamps, consider using pendant lighting the same way you would a lamp. In a bedroom, get rid of your bedside lighting and hang pendant lights over it instead. This not only creates drama and gives your bedroom some edge, but it frees up the space on your night side table where the lamp would have been. Give this a go in your living room, too!

8. Multi-Room Remodels

Do you have a list of projects that you want to get done but haven't had the time or motivation? Now is the time! Break out that list you've been keeping and start crossing things off! We have seen more multi-room remodels and other major remodels be top of mind. People have been waiting until their home's value was well above previous levels and now is the time to put some time and money into you house to make day-to-day life more convenient and more luxurious!

9. Human Docking Stations

With more people working remotely from home, we are not only seeing traditional offices disappear but home offices as well. Wi-fi has made it able for people to work from anywhere inside and outside their homes, as long as they have a laptop or tablet! We have seen docking stations become more popular than ever and are replacing the home office. There is still a need for a place to store a printer, file cabinets and so on but they are being stored in a smaller place that allows people to sit for a minute to tackle quick tasks, print a document or charge their devices.

10. Garage Remodels

How often do you look at your garage and think about all the space that is there that could be used for other purposes? You're not alone! Garages are a notorious misused space and can barely fit a car at times. Instead of using it to squeeze a car in think about a space in your house you wish was bigger or a room you wish you had. We have seen garages be converted into man caves and home gyms. Have a detached garage? Great! You can build another story on top for even more additional space.
