Designing the Ultimate Spa Experience at Home

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in your home, so finding the balance between modern elegance and comfort is what we strive for.  At Sensory Six, our holistic design incorporates organic elements with modern design.  We believe that your bathroom should exude sophistication and luxury while creating a calming space for you to relax and unwind.

What soothes you and brings you to peace?  Is it the feel of the outdoors?  The luxurious pampering of a day spa?  Your favorite essential oils?

Your bathroom should bring a sense of calm from the moment you step in until the moment you leave.   Think a personalized, zen, weekend spa getaway only footsteps from your bedroom.

Clean space, clear mind.

No matter the design, having a clean space gives you room to clear your head.  Uncluttered, organized space is the perfect blank canvas for creating a zen space in your home.

Keep it light and airy.

Neutral and cool color palettes are key to creating that spa, zen feel.  Color has the ability to shift emotion and mood, so keep harsher colors out of your bathroom.  Pick colors found in nature to create a calming space.

Incorporate organic elements.

Bringing nature into the home inevitably creates a calming effect.  Organic furnishings, wood elements and accents, and greenery help bring all of your senses into harmony and add a unique flare to your space.  Don’t forget to indulge yourself in the essential oils.

Play around with textures

Soft or patterned fabrics, textured tile, smooth stone, and wood accents can all meld together seamlessly.  Don’t be afraid to stray away from a one-dimensional design as textures create a more personalized experience.  Pick soft fabrics and subtly textured tiles for a calming juxtaposition.

Lighting changes the space.

An otherwise zen bathroom with fluorescent overheads can be discomforting.  By incorporating natural lighting into your bathroom design, you create an airy, outdoor feel.  The natural lighting should complement other lighting elements in the room, such as sconces or recessed lighting, and should combine seamlessly to create a comfortable space.

Mix styles

Don’t be afraid to add classic elements to a contemporary and modern design.  A fresh take on a clawfoot tub or chandelier lighting creates a distinct contrast, making your bathroom truly unique and truly “you”.

Artwork matters

Taste in art is very personal and inevitably affects mood, so choose pieces that reflect your own personal sense of calm.  Art that celebrates peacefulness invites you to unwind and clear your head.  Go with your gut, but keep the colors consistent with the rest of the space.

The small details of your bathroom matter.  Each works together to create a harmonious space meant to relax and soothe you.  Keep in mind how all of the elements of the room flow together.  At Sensory Six, we strive to create a holistically designed space to promote the highest level of serenity for each client.
