Designing for Wellness — At Home & The Workplace

We are becoming more and more aware of the role of our surroundings — the environment in which we live, learn and work. The connection between art, aesthetics, the built environment, health and wellbeing are nothing new to the design world, but applying it to the home and work environment is rapidly increasing. Wellness-focused interior design is said to be an on growing “design ethos." Residential and commercial spaces can greatly influence one’s physical health, as well as our emotional state through interior design. At Sensory Six, our design-builds focus on enabling people to enjoy lives filled with positive energy.

One of the most powerful elements of creating a space is the opportunity to impact and improve the health and well-being of people. People expect healthier workplaces, and more and more people are going to demand it in their living and other social environments as well.

Biophilic Design

Design that connects us to nature is proven to inspire us, boost our productivity and even contribute to a stronger sense of well-being. It is necessary to bring the outdoors in and create indoor environments that reference nature in both obvious and subtle ways. It’s more than just adding a plant or two. Natural light, vegetation, good air quality, living walls, natural textures, materials and nature views will provide the positive impact homeowners and workers need.

Lighting

Why lighting? Light is increasingly becoming one of the most important elements in commercial and residential design. More spaces now are being designed around natural light sources and smart lighting systems that better match our natural rhythm. Something as simple as natural day light can provide a tremendous health and wellness boost. Natural light not only affects our day-night rhythm, but also our vitamin D balance.

Color

It should come as no surprise that color can have a strong impact on the mood of a room and how it makes you feel. The different colors that are used in interior design can really affect the environment and can either over-stimulate or under-stimulate your space. Lighter colors are considered to by airy and can make rooms feel larger and even brighter. Darker colors are considered to be more refined and make rooms feel more intimate and warmer.

Wellness-minded design is growing in popularity as more and more people are pushing for healthier environments in their workplaces and homes. People spend almost all of their time indoors so living and working spaces need to promote health and wellness. At Sensory Six, we take a holistic view, creating spaces that bring all your senses into harmony. We accomplish this through organic furnishings and materials; use of natural light and bringing nature into the home or business. A project in mind? Contact us at info@SensorySix.com, we would love to create a space that is perfect for you in both form and function.
