Private Retreat or Spare Room? You Decide.

Picture this: You have an unused room in your house and you’re sick of letting it go to waste. That is what we call a “champagne problem” at Sensory Six! Whether you have a rarely used dining room, the kids are now grown and gone, or you just ended up with a spare room, this is your chance to think about the space in a completely new way. At Sensory Six, we believe your home should be your haven, both calming and serene. With extra rooms, there’s no need to be practical or stay inside the lines. Why not indulge a hobby or create a retreat of your own?

A Quiet Corner for Reading

Are you a serious bookworm? Is your idea of a “guilty pleasure” to sneak away and read the latest bestseller? Arrange your reading room by genre and include the biggest, most comfortable seating possible. It’s best to plan for surface and wall lighting, as well as overhead lighting, so you can read all day and all night long. What’s one more chapter?

While Away the Hours If You Can

If you’re someone who likes to sit back and day dream, your private retreat should inspire you to take on your goals! Great ideas have been inspired by private, uninterrupted time away from the bustle of mundane activities. We promise you will feel refreshed and be inspired to tackle whatever lies ahead. For these types of spaces, it’s best to keep the room free of clutter and technology. We suggest comfortable seating that takes advantage of any available, aspiring view.

Soak in Privacy

A private, in-home spa? How great would this be! No need to drive to the spa anymore, just have a professional come to your home for a massage or facial (or both!). Or, upgrade your bathroom for maximum serenity. Are you someone who always jumps in and out of the shower in less than five minutes? If so, you're missing out on one of life's most wonderful, yet most simple, pleasures: soaking in tub. To set a relaxing and comforting mood, pay special attention to the lighting in your bathroom. We recommend installing a dimmer switch on the overhead fixture or place a small lamp on the counter. If you have space for a chandelier, the shimmer and glitter of small bulbs will create a calming atmosphere.

A Private Place for Hobbies

Do you thrive with a paintbrush in hand? Find a place, large or small, where you can create art to your heart's content- just be sure it is full of great natural light! Arrange a comfortable chair with easels close to a window and consider neutral colors for walls and floor coverings. Don’t forget to include a space to store supplies and a sink for cleanup, if possible.

Are you long for time and a place to do some writing? If so, create a space in your home just for that! Whether you write longhand or on a computer, your space should be a haven from outside distractions. If you must share an area of a room, you should use a divider screen to separate your space from the rest of the area. Have a desk, comfortable chair, good light, and an inspirational view. Be sure there is room to spread everything out, like a large desk. Once you have all that, you'll find that your inspiration will flow freely.

If you are a musician or have budding musicians in the house, you know about the speakers, amplifiers, instrument stands and sheet music that accumulate. What a treat to have a dedicated room for this! Include a rug, window treatments and any type of upholstered furniture to help with sound buffering (you’ll thank us later!).

How about creating an in-house room to store plant supplies, cutting shears and pots? It’s very practical to have a large sink for washing garden fruit and vegetables or making bouquets with flowers from the yard. On the plus side, organic and natural elements have a way of making us feel calm and at peace. When you bring bits of nature into your home it increases health, happiness, and productivity. One specialty area of Sensory Six is applying the best technology to create spaces that are highly functional and contribute to health and wellness.

Spice Up your Spare Room

Because your private retreat is supposed to remove you from the frantic activities of your everyday life, choose colors for walls, furniture, or accessories that help reinforce the fact that the area is for relaxing. For a gentleman's corner for reading, dark navy, chestnut brown, forest green, or burgundy can be used to set the tone for serious work awaiting. If you're inspired by bright, cheery colors then have these colors in your retreat. No one said a personal space should be boring! Yellow is uplifting and fresh, greens and blues are soothing, red is inspiring. Choose the colors that make you feel your best and colors that will give your space a comfortable feeling.

A private space doesn't have to be large, but it does have to be furnished with your favorite things. A Sensory Six design incorporates a sense of color, texture, lighting and art that will delight all your senses. If you long for a spot to curl up with a book, you must have a good reading light, a comfortable chair, and footstool, a lush comforter or throw, and a place to set a chilled lemonade or cozy cup of tea. If your everyday dream is to lounge in a warm, foamy tub, put dimmers on the light fixtures in your bathroom, light loads of candles, and have music at hand.

What if we said you can have your very own personal retreat without having to leave your home? The space may be there OR we can help add an additional room onto your home! Let us help find a special spot that is all yours. You'll be pleasantly surprised how easy it is to escape without going anywhere! Contact us at Info@SensorySix.com to learn how we can create a private retreat that is perfect for you in both form and function.
